Export Data To Text File

Magic Version: Generic. This hasn't really changed in a LONG time!

You may want to export a lot more than just a single table, but it is much easier to explain the single-table export first. After you understand the magic methodology of exporting, you can modify your programs to included linked and/or calculated values.

From the tables repository, park on the table you would like to export and run "Generate Program." (Options -> Generate Program OR Ctrl+G).

On the APG tab, change the following items:

Mode -- from "Execute" to "Generate"
Option -- from "Browse" to "Export"

Then click "Ok". This will create an Export program in the Programs Repository.

You will want to look at the following items in this program. The HELP button in each of these locations might provide some additional explanations.

1. Task -> I/O Files (Ctrl+I) -- This program will have an entry in the I/O Files repository with an expression for the destination file (export) file.

2. Task -> Forms (Ctrl+F) -- Check out the 3rd form on the list which is a Class=1 / Detail / Text-based form.

3. Record Suffix -- The export program will have an "Output Form" operation that used the Text-based form AND the I/O Tables entry.

Once you've done this a few times, you will probably agree that it is VERY easy!
